2021-07-05 02:14

President Liao Changyong,

Director Martin Nesirky,

Excellencies and colleagues,

I am very delighted to see you hereat this special "cloud" concert, presented by Shanghai Conservatory of Music, on the occasion of 2021 United Nations Chinese Language Day in Vienna.

Music has no borders or boundaries. In this unusual time of the COVID-19 pandemic, music is a spiritual force that can transcend the barriers, reach the hearts, and touch us most.

The special concert presented to us by Shanghai Conservatory of Music today will bring together both symphony and traditional Chinese folk music, contemporary songs and modern interpretations of ancient Chinese poetry, which is a fusion of the ancient and the modern, the East and the West.

Here, on behalf of the Permanent Mission of China in Vienna, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to President Liao and other artists from Shanghai Conservatory of Music for presenting us with this splendid "artistic feast".

Excellencies and colleagues,

Shanghai Conservatory of Music is one of the most prestigious music institutions in China, and is known as the China's "cradle of musicians" in its century-long history.

Over the past few years, the artists from Shanghai Conservatory of Music have, on many occasions, participated in the UN Chinese Language Day and impressed us with their wonderful performances, especially the Chinese melodies they sang and the Chinese music they played, which demonstrate the diversity and charm of the Chinese culture.

The success of Shanghai Conservatory of Music is a symbol of the development and progress of Shanghai in all aspects. Shanghai has also not only witnessed the birth of the Communist Party of China 100 years ago, but also many major historical events in China's revolution, construction, reform, and development. In the course of this century, Shanghai has always shared the fate of the country and the nation with great contributions to modern and contemporary China.

In recent years, under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping and the Communist Party of China, Shanghai has given full play to its role as a pioneer in China's reform and opening-up as well as in innovation and development. It has vigorously forged ahead as a center of international economy, finance, trade, shipping and technological innovation, with its total economic volume entering the forefront of global cities.

In the meantime, Shanghai has also worked to enhance its "soft power". It is endowed with both oriental charm and international style and has become a city deeply rooted in history while embracing the future. Shanghai is a showcase of China's success in the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Excellencies and colleagues,

Today's special concert is not only condensed with the upbeat spirit of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, but also embodies the enterprising and fast-moving development of Shanghai and contemporary China. I am sure that this "audio-visual feast" will help you better understand China and the Chinese culture.

In conclusion, I wish today's concert a great success!
