2006-06-21 00:00

Mr. Chairman,

The Chinese delegation has noted with satisfaction the efforts made by OOSA in implementing the United Nations Programme on Space Application. In cooperation with COPUOS, the Chinese government hosted a UN/China workshop on telemedicine development in the Asia-Pacific region in Guangzhou, China from 5 to 9 December 2005, which was attended by more than 70 participants from 17 countries. China, together with OOSA and the Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Multilateral Cooperation in Space Technology and Application, provided financial assistance to 27 participants for their participation in the workshop.

Mr. Chairman,

In cooperation with the Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Multilateral Cooperation, the competent departments of the Chinese government organized three short training courses on space technology application in Beijing in 2005, which provided training to more than 40 trainees from countries in the Asia-Pacific region and thus contributed to the improvement in the abilities of Asia-Pacific countries in the application of space technology.

Mr. Chairman,

China National Space Administration, in cooperation with the secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Multilateral Cooperation, will host a 9 month master programme on space technology and application in Beijing in July 2006. This master program, to be based on the four teaching modules developed by the United Nations and to be organized by Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, will provide training mainly to trainees from the developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The Chinese government and the secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Multilateral Cooperation will offer full or half scholarship to some of the trainees attending this programme.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
