H.E. Amb. TANG Guoqiang made a statement at the 16th Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

On April 24, 2007, H.E. Amb. TANG Guoqiang, head of the Chinese delegation and Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna, attended the 16th Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and made a statement under the item of Thematic Debate "Crime prevention and criminal justice responses to urban crime", introduced the effective measures taken by China in combating urban crime.

Ambassador TANG said, China attaches great importance to the fight against urban crime and is of the view that combating and preventative measures are indispensable in response to urban crime with emphasis laid on preventative measures. Besides focusing on the new characteristics and forms of urban crime as well as the awareness-raising to people, attention should also be paid in strengthening the social management and civil settlement in order to eradicate the disturbing factors harming social stability. Ambassador TANG stressed that combating urban crime is a systematic project which requires joint efforts by the entire international community. Ambassador TANG appreciates efforts and endeavors made by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and hopes UNODC could continue to play an active role in the campaign against urban crime.
